Best Online Roulette History
Roulette is a French casino game, and
the name literary means "little wheel." It's one of the
older games you'll find in a casino and its history goes
back to the 18th century. No one exactly knows how the
game was invented, but it was probably a mixture of a
couple of English wheel games - Roly-Poly and Ace of
Hearts - and a few Italian board games. Between England
and Italy we find France, which already had a board game
named Roulette, and that was where the fusion took
place.
Two men, Louis and Francois Blanc would make their own
mark on the game by modifying the wheel. They would
create a 31 pocket wheel, adding a single 0. This was
done to improve the house's edge and benefit the casino.
Roulette was first offered in the Frenchmen's (Louis and
Francois Blanc) casino in Monte Carlo. The game would
receive an image boost after Francois taught the game to
Charles III, the Prince of Monaco, who was a well-known
gambler.
While much of the history of roulette can be documented,
not all of it can. There are different versions of its
history, some which are ominous. It has been rumored
that in the 1800s, Louis and Francois Blanc sold their
soul to the devil in order to learn the secrets of
roulette and secure its popularity. Individuals site the
fact that the men numbered the wheel, 0-36 so that it
would add up the infamous 666, the number of the beast.
Of course this is legend and thus can't be proven.
However, it can't be disproven (or hasn't) either.
Roulette would continue to grow in popularity and would
be partly responsible for the later gambling boon in
Monte Carlo. In the 1900s, citizens of the United States
would be introduced to the game. It would be well
received and players could find a game of roulette in
parlors throughout the country. It was especially
enjoyed by gold speculators in the West. These
individuals lived their lives based on risk taking with
the hope of a big pay days. They quickly related to the
spirit of the game.
There would be some changes made to the game of roulette
once it reached the United States. The first
modification would be the addition of the 00. Not
satisfied with the low house edge of the original
version, they found that the double zero would increase
it. This would translate into bigger paydays for the
casino, which many American casinos still enjoy today.
To be fair, there has been some disagreement over this
version of the story. Some purport that the double 00
wheel was first available in France but not used by all
game rooms, parlors or casinos. They suggest that those
game operators in the United States preferred the double
00, already available in France, to the single 0 wheel
and it thus became the predominate one. In France, the
single 0 wheel would become the preferred one.
Whether the first account is true or the second, what is
without dispute is that the American roulette has become
synonymous with the use of the wheel that contains both
the single and double zero and the French (and European)
wheel with the single zero.
Today, roulette is available to players all over the
world. Individuals don't even have to leave their homes
to play. Instead, they can log into their computers and
play whenever they'd like. Online casinos have made this
possible. Another huge benefit to roulette players who
participate in online games is the ability for them to
play various variations of the game. American, European
and French roulette are all available online. This gives
individuals an opportunity to play the version they
prefer and also to take advantage of the lower house
edge the latter two forms of the game provide. It is
even possible to play for free online. Most casinos
offer bonuses that give new players the opportunity to
earn free cash that can go toward game spille.
